#107. Moments
Why do I do what I do? Is it to make more of Jesus and less of me? Am I promoting Jesus and loving God wholeheartedly? In my best moments I am following the way of my master but those are moments.
l have mixed motives and I’m sure you do too- we are sinners! With this in mind, let’s read today's reading: -
Mark 12 _38
As he taught, Jesus said, ‘Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted with respect in the market-places, 39 and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honour at banquets. 40 They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely.’_ _41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few pence._ _43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, ‘Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything— all she had to live on.’_
This morning I am examining myself, and if you feel bold, please do the same. These words from Dave Griffin are helpful -
Honour: Are you a servant at heart? Do you have selfish aspirations?
People: Do you need everyone to like or respect you? Are you judging by results?
Greed: Are you living simply? Do you use your possessions to bless others?
Hypocrisy: Does your private praying match your public praying?
Lord help me to be like Jesus, not just for the moments but as a way of life everyday Amen
much love
Tim
