What do the following words have in common –
- Revelation
- Adoption
- Salvation
- Substitution
- Justification
- Imputation
Do you have any idea? They are all words that end in ‘Shun’. I know the purists of the English language would put me right, but on camp this year we learnt a song by the children’s singer Colin Buchannan called ‘Big Words that end in Shun’. This then gave us the perfect way in to teach the children and young people of Hook what some of these key words mean for the Christian.
This year the talks were delivered by Darryl Betts from Insight in Kingston and me. I taught the Spectrum children and Darryl taught the Discovery group.
In each session we learnt a memory verse put to the tune of 'frere jacques'. The memory verse was Romans 1 verse 16
"I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes"
Ask one of the children if they can recite the verse!
Camp is much more than the teaching; there is the wide game, the relay races, the messy games, the late-night walk, the evening story (this year it was George Mueller) not to mention the excellent entertainment around the camp fire led by our very own Scout, Mr Dave Batten. Throughout the camp we were given much sustenance and energy by our top chef team of Sapey & Sedgwick.
There were many highlights this year but something that stood out for me was the great team of leaders that went and also the amazing group of children and young people we have at Hook.
Praise God!
